Day 1- Burlington to Rutland Vt

On Saturday, we loaded into buses and made our way to Burlington. Here's the gang I usually ride with. Biking studs all, at least in our minds.
We enjoyed a nice late afternoon and evening in lovely Burlington and left town bright and early the next morning at 7:15, under a light drizzle and cloudy skies. For the first forty miles or so, we rode along local lovely roads along the Champlain bikeway a marked bike route along primo cycling roads. The drizzle let up after the first hour, leaving us with cloud cover for most of the day, which was very welcome as it was quite humid and still in the mid 80's.
The views were incredible today, with the Adirondacks to our west, and the Green Mountains to the east for much of the day. And a lot of dairy farms!!
Oddly enough, we even saw a camel today. Two humps, count 'em yourself in the photo below. We rolled into Rutland around 3pm after a leisurely lunch. Today's stats- 80 miles with 4963 feet of climbing, nice rolling terrain, with a few short steep climbs. Great cycling day overall on rural roads with very little traffic.
Miscellaneous photos: above the beer at the end of the ride!

  3. Hope that was a craft beer from VT! Sounds like you guys had some decent weather....at least compared to down here where it got up to almost 100 today and was still 95 at 6:30 this evening, before counting the humidity in! Hope those clouds keep following you guys.
